Developers
Our developers work on developing new features and components for our technology platform. As a platform developer you are responsible for delivering complete pieces of functionality - from design of the feature to delivery of a documented and tested implementation. In addition, many of our developers have ongoing long-term ownership of existing components of the platform. We employ modern agile methods when developing software, including unit testing and continuous integration. We have suitable and interesting challenges for you whether you just qualified or have many years of experience. A developer in Yahoo!:
  • is an outstanding programmer, fluent in Java or C++
  • has good OO design skills and knowledge of patterns
  • is able to communicate and work well with others, yet able to work independently
Technical Lead
Technical leads do development work, but are in addition in charge of driving the technology for a larger part of the platform, or some especially challenging application of the plattform. A technical lead:
  • is a good developer
  • has good communication skills, and an interest for discussing and communicating technical solutions
  • is a great technologist, able to come up with novel yet practical solutions to drive our technology forwards
  • is able to form an understanding of the context in which our technology is used to know what is important and what is not
Engineering Managers
Engineering managers are responsible for a group of developers. They support the day-to-day work of those developers as needed, are responsible for helping them in their career development and for reporting and coordinating work out of the group. A group lead:
  • has a firm understanding of the relevant technology
  • has interest and skills in people leadership
  • has interest in modern agile developmen practices
Solution Engineers
Solution engineers work directly with the users of our technology platform. They deploy large-scale systems and ensures operability and maintainability. This includes:
  • capacity planning
  • define system characteristics and ensure the users get the needed features and performance
  • benchmarking and system tuning at an advanced level
A solution engineer:
  • has a good/working knowledge of Unix
  • is able to develop a good grasp of the workings of a technology platform
  • enjoys workin with the users of our software
  • fixes broken systems
